Seasonal Clean-ups

Twice a year a yard needs more than maintenance; it needs a reset. In spring that means clearing the winter's accumulation: matted leaves in the corners, fallen branches, dead growth in the beds and a lawn that went into winter long and came out tangled. In fall, especially under mature trees, it means getting leaves off the grass before they mat down, smother the turf and invite disease through the wet months. A lawn buried under wet leaves for six weeks can lose more grass than a summer of drought takes.

Clean-ups also catch the small problems while they are cheap. A washout along the bed edge, a shrub that died over winter, drainage that has shifted, mulch that has thinned to bare soil. The visit is booked as a single appointment with a clear scope agreed on the call: what gets cleared, what gets hauled, which beds get cut back, and whether mulch or overseeding rides along while the yard is open and accessible.

How seasonal clean-ups works

1

Agree the scope on the call

Clean-up pricing turns on volume, so the call covers trees, debris level and haul-off before anyone is surprised.

2

Clear the lawn surface

Leaves and debris come off the turf first, because that is where the damage happens.

3

Work the beds and edges

Dead growth is cut back, edges are re-cut and beds are left ready for mulch or planting.

4

Haul and finish

Debris is hauled off unless you keep a compost corner, and the yard is left clean enough to mow.

What the price depends on

Typical range for seasonal clean-ups: $160-$520 per visit. Your contractor confirms the range for your job on the call, before you book.

Seasonal Clean-ups in our six metros

Dallas-Fort Worth: lawns here are mostly Bermuda and St. Augustine, with zoysia in some shaded yards, on heavy black clay that swells when wet and cracks when dry. Spring green-up and pre-emergent timing, summer watering discipline, and fall recovery define the DFW lawn year.

Greater Houston: lawns here are mostly St. Augustine almost everywhere, with Bermuda in full-sun newer yards, on dense gumbo clay that drains slowly and stays wet after storms. Houston lawns grow nearly year-round, so mowing rhythm, fungus watch and drainage drive the calendar.

Jacksonville and Northeast Florida: lawns here are mostly St. Augustine (Floratam) and Bahia, with zoysia and centipede in some yards, on sandy soil that drains fast and lets nutrients wash through. The rainy season sets the Northeast Florida calendar: feeding and mowing surge with the summer rains, and many local rules restrict fertilizer during the wettest months, which is worth checking before any application.

Suburban Maryland: lawns here are mostly tall fescue as the standard lawn, often blended with Kentucky bluegrass and perennial rye, on varied Piedmont and coastal soils, with clay common in older suburbs. Fall is the Maryland lawn season: aeration and overseeding in early fall do more for a fescue lawn than everything else combined, and Maryland's fertilizer rules pause applications through winter, which makes the fall feeding window count.

Northern Virginia: lawns here are mostly tall fescue and Kentucky bluegrass blends, on heavy red and orange clay across much of Fairfax and Loudoun. Northern Virginia runs on the cool-season calendar: fall aeration and overseeding is the main event, spring pre-emergent protects it, and fall clean-up keeps leaves from undoing it.

Atlanta: lawns here are mostly Bermuda and zoysia in full sun, tall fescue in shade, a true transition-zone mix, on Georgia red clay, acidic and prone to compaction and erosion on slopes. Atlanta runs two lawn calendars at once: Bermuda lawns wake in spring and sleep in winter, while fescue lawns are rebuilt every fall and defended through summer.

Seasonal Clean-ups questions

How many leaf visits does a wooded yard need in fall?

A yard under mature oaks or maples often needs two or three passes through leaf season, because leaves fall in waves and a single end-of-season clearing leaves grass buried for weeks. Lighter tree cover usually manages with one thorough visit.

Is it okay to mulch leaves into the lawn instead of removing them?

A light layer mulched finely into the turf is fine and even feeds the soil. A heavy layer cannot be mulched down fast enough and mats instead, so removal is the right call when leaves blanket the grass.

What does a spring clean-up include that a normal mow does not?

Debris and branch clearing, bed cut-back, edging refresh and a first cut at the right height for green-up, plus a condition check. It is the visit that sets the yard up for the whole season.

Do you haul the debris away?

Yes, haul-off is part of a standard clean-up unless you ask for material to stay for compost or a natural area. It is confirmed on the booking call so the price you hear covers it.
